Recycling FAQ

Area Recyclers accepts #1, #2, and #5 marked plastic containers, newspapers/catalogs/magazines/office paper/envelopes, glass, tin/aluminum cans, and corrugated cardboard. Please rinse all milk jugs and remove/throw lids away prior to recycling. Cereal boxes and soda/beer cartons are not recyclable.

Curbside recycling collection is provided to all incorporated communities in our service area. Residents are required to have at least one Area Recyclers labeled container, and are then free to use additional containers of their choice if needed. Recycling containers can be purchased at Area Recyclers and at area city hall offices.

If you are using the rural drop off locations you are not required to purchase an Area Recyclers labeled container.

Curbside collection calendars are distributed annually and typically are placed into containers during the month of November. Collection calendars are available to view and download on the website home page. Additionally, you can stop in at Area Recyclers to get a calendar.

Area Recyclers accepts appliances (examples include refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, furnaces, stove, range, ovens, dishwasher, washer, dryer, water heaters) by appointment only. Please call 319-753-8126 to schedule an appointments (appointments will be made no sooner than the next business day). All appliances have a $10 disposal fee, cash/check only.
