The HazChem Center accepts unused oil based paint from households at no charge. Please call 319-753-8758 for an appointment. The HazChem Center also accepts basic household hazardous waste (examples include pesticides/herbicides, household cleaners and chemicals, spray paints) at no charge for households (up to 120#, please). Appointments are required.
Latex (water based paint) may be dried out and once it is a solid it may be disposed of with your regular trash. Leave the lid off of your latex paint so your trash collector can see that it is dried. Mixing clay kitty litter in with your latex paint will expedite the drying process. If you wish to not dry out your paint prior to disposal, Latex paint is accepted for a fee at the HazChem Center. For information call the HazChem Center at 319-753-8758.
